INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS TRAINING

Independent Living Skills Training

Free to Be Programs has an Independent Living Skills (ILS) Training component.

Individuals in both the FFA and FHA may be referred for these services. The

ILS instructor works with individuals both in their homes and in the community.

Individuals with similar needs are grouped together and training is individualized.

The following activities are typical :

• Purchasing items from a store

• Ordering and paying for food at a restaurant

• Preparing food

• Planning and participating in social activities (e.g., going to a movie)

• Budgeting money

• Social skills

• Communication skills

• Washing laundry

• Riding the bus / mobility training
